Deaths in Norway following immunization with Pfizer-BNT vaccine. Facts and their context …
I’ll start with the facts, from the source – a press release published yesterday by the Norwegian Medical Agency (https://legemiddelverket.no/nyheter/covid-19-vaccination-associated-with-deaths-in-elderly-people-who-are-frail ). Within a few days after the 1st injection of Pfizer-BNT vaccine, 23 deaths were recorded. All patients over 80 years of age in nursing homes and long-term care facilities.
«We cannot rule out that adverse reactions to the vaccine occurring within the first days following vaccination (such as fever and nausea) may contribute to more serious course and fatal outcome in patients with severe underlying disease»
The fact that the condition worsened and a lethal outcome occurred is not so much a conclusion as a statement. And yes, indeed, it cannot be ruled out that fever or vomiting in a seriously frail patient can accelerate death. But what conclusions can be drawn from the facts? This requires context.
Immunization with this vaccine in Norway began recently (I do not know the exact date, about 2 weeks ago). First of all, guests and staff of nursing homes and centers where bedridden patients are kept are vaccinated. On 15-1-2021, 42 thousand people were vaccinated in Norway, most of them over 80 years old. Every week in Norway, on average, about 400 patients die in these institutions. without vaccination, 800 people would have died in 2 weeks. 23 deaths are about 3% of 800.Поділитися цим:
