Why does this happen and why do doctors advise to endure temperatures of 37-38 ° C?
The fact is that a layer of water molecules must form around both macromolecules in order to bind the proteins of infection by antibodies of the immune system. This hydration layer facilitates the convergence of specific antibodies to the proteins of the virus and their binding according to the “key in a lock” principle.
However, there are few free (single) water molecules in the body – most of the water molecules are linked with each other by hydrogen bonds, sometimes forming clusters of tens to hundreds of molecules.
A certain energy is spent on the destruction of clusters with the subsequent formation of a hydration layer on the protein surface. The minimum of this energy is expended at the temperature of the minimum heat capacity of water, which is about 38 ° C. That is, for each interaction of macromolecules in the body, water clusters are continuously “reformatted”, and the closer the temperature is to 38 ° C, the faster and stronger bonds between antibodies and viruses are formed.
